Our Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Daintree Wilderness Lodge located?

We are located about 2hrs north of Cairns, over the Daintree River and right in the middle of the Daintree Rainforest. Ideally, you should aim to travel up before dark. If you are arriving after dark please let us know so we are aware. If you are arriving after 4pm we do ask that you contact us directly to inform us.

Directions to Daintree Wilderness Lodge & Ferry Crossing

Follow the main road out of Cairns, heading north until you reach the Daintree River ferry crossing. The ferry operates from 6am – midnight and costs $47 for a return trip (from July 1, 2023, subject to change).  After crossing the river, drive over the Alexandra Range for about 14km. Pass through Cow Bay, cross Hutchinson Creek, and look for Alexandra Bay Primary School on your right. About 1km past the school on the right, you’ll see a large lawn area with our signs.

Please note that mobile reception is limited in this area; if needed, ask a local for directions.

Tropical Cyclone Jasper Update:

In December 2023 the Daintree endured a Tropical Cyclone and flooding event that damaged roads in the region. The Douglas Shire Council is providing weekly updates on the status of these roads and we would encourage to check the link below before your visit. To get to the lodge you will need to travel on the Cape Tribulation Road and the Alexandria Range.

What is the digital connectivity like at the Lodge and in the region?

We have recently upgraded our satellite internet provider but with the Lodge being built within the rainforest and in a regional off-grid location, phone and internet services are sometimes unpredictable.  Phone connectivity in regional areas of Australia can be somewhat erratic, so we suggest that you be prepared and try to limit your usage where possible…a digital detox.

What type of car do I need? Do I need a 4×4?

No you don’t need a 4WD car but we suggest you organise car hire from either Cairns or Port Douglas. It will make your trip much more flexible and enjoyable! We do not offer any transfers to or from the lodge and our restaurant does not offer lunch.

The closest cafe is about 30 min walking distance, however there are not many footpaths in the region.

What are your restaurant opening hours?

Restaurant & Bar Breakfast is served every morning in the restaurant. Our fully licensed restaurant is open nightly for dinner, however a table MUST be booked BEFORE 4pm to avoid disappointment.

Do you cater to particular dietary requirements?

Dietary Requirements If you have allergies, intolerances or certain dietary requirements please advise us PRIOR to your stay so we can cater to your needs. We are located in a remote region and supplier deliveries are limited.

Can you assist with tour and activity bookings?

We have a great understanding of the various tours and activities in the area and are happy to advise our guests. Curating an itinerary for each guest and their preferences and tastes is a pleasure as it adds to the experience in the Daintree Rainforest.

Local tours include snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, crocodile and river tours, Indigenous cultural tours, rainforest/beach horse riding, tropical fruit tastings and day/night walks in the rainforest.

Booking in advance is suggested to ensure a place is secured. However, booking is often flexible once you arrive at the lodge. Apart from the local tours, we can also organise reforestation projects and tours to the Bloomfield/Cooktown region.

The Daintree National Park also has many trails of various difficulties to explore. Please email us if you have enquiries. We look forward to meeting you and hope you will enjoy your stay with us.
