From Southern cassowaries to crocodiles, White-lipped tree frogs to the buff-breasted paradise kingfisher, yellow bridal veil stinkhorns to giant king ferns, the world of photography in the Daintree is full of colour and spectacle. Twitchers, wildlife, underwater, botanical, macro and landscape photographers are spoilt for choice at what is on offer in our ancient and diverse landscape.
A World Heritage Haven for Wildlife Photography
The Daintree National Park is a refuge for wildlife. This World Heritage listed region has 20% of Australia’s bird species, 35% of Australia’s frogs, marsupials and reptiles and 65% of Australia’s bat and butterfly species. Along our Daintree River we can organise private photography tours early in the morning or late afternoon to capture the wildlife activity with the perfect lighting.
The Great Barrier Reef: An Underwater Photo Paradise
Located along the Daintree Rainforest coast is the world largest coral reef system. The Great Barrier Reef is Australia’s most spectacular marine destination and totally accessible from our Lodge. Take a snorkelling tour from Cape Tribulation whilst staying with us or dive from Port Douglas or Cairns en route to the Daintree Rainforest. One of the seven wonders of the natural world, The Great Barrier Reef is a paradise for underwater photographers.
Macro Magic: Zooming into Daintree’s Flora
For some, the preference is to keep their feet grounded and maybe get up close and personal with the flora and fauna. Every rainforest leaf, cauliflorous flower, fungi, moss, vine is the perfect subject for macro photography. There is nothing like making something minute into the grand or revealing astounding textures from the rainforest. The vegetation of the Daintree Rainforest is the most diverse in Australia and sometimes known as “green dinosaurs”. We are home to many unique species, including ancient ferns and cycads, large fruiting trees and beautiful flowering orchids. This tropical landscape is The Garden of Eden for botanical photographers.
